Refs badly need to get their act together.
Everyone acknowledges that being a ref is a difficult job. Everyone also knows that they have been incredibly inconsistent this year, and yesterday's match was a prime example of that. There must be more clarity on the two main issues to emerge from yesterday.

The first is all the holding and wrestling at corners and set-pieces. Defenders are going to push the boundaries to get away with as much as they can get away with. I think there has to be a no holding rule, punishable by a penalty. That's not to say that it becomes non-contact. Defenders have every right to stand their ground, so there will still be plenty of contact, but the holding and pulling has to stop. Zero tolerance is needed.

The other thing is the issue raised by the Vardy sending-off. Most pundits are saying it was the correct decision because Vardy played for it by stepping into Ogbonna's path, though I heard Gary Mabbutt on the radio this morning saying that a striker has every right to do that. Most people will think he is wrong and that forwards need to be punished when they deliberately "play for" a penalty, but we see them get away with it time and time again. This is an extremely difficult one for referees - a real grey area, but a few more decisions like the one against Vardy would make forwards think twice before trying to con the referee. Again, more clarity is needed.

FA I suppose? I agree. It's just that the timing is diabolical. Atkinson and Clattenburg are 3rd and 4th on EUFA's "Elite Referees" list.

(and yep, every game is crucial etc etc)

What qualifies as 'best'? Clattencunt? Moss? Dean? Atkinson?

They've all made a dog's arse of refereeing games this year.

Crucial Prem games this midweek, and Talksport just saying the "best" British refs (Clattenburg etc) are apparently off for the week on some EUFA training course. Farcical bollocks.

We badly need live video replays, in these days of serial cheating and play-acting which has proven beyond the ability of even the sharpest eyed referees to arbitrate.

How does Huth get the pen when he has been sent off for the elbow?
After Vardy goes as well I expect we end up winning about 4-0 against 9 men

Hard to get consistency when the players are consistently cheating cunts...!x

Re: Refs badly need to get their act together

Agreed Baggins, that happens so many times during a game and goes unpunished.

It was shoulder to shoulder and AC was bigger and stronger.

I thought the ref did most things right as i explained on the match thread bar that one crucial decision.

I don't give a fuck at what angle you like to show the penalty yesterday. It was never a fucking pen in a million years.

Seriously. It's time for video refs.

and what happens to the ball after a goal has been scored 13?

Re: Refs badly need to get their act together.
Instead of them breaking away and scoring their first, we get a pen for Huth's elbow on Reid. 1-0 to us instead of 1-0 to them.
Our pen that we did get makes it 2-0 to us.
Cresswell's goal 3-0.
Huth gets a pen for Ogbonna's foul, 3-1.
Their pen if it was the correct decision makes it 3-2.

If all the key decisions are correct we still win 3-2.

Even with a day passing, I am not going to accept its a penalty, whatever the penalty, Carroll put no hands on him and he gets a foot the ball.
Definition of shoulder barge.

You can't let a player just waltz through the box, you have to be able to make a legal challenge.

Re: Refs badly need to get their act together.
Claret,

Nothing looks the same on slow motion. You can find a fault with everything. Cricket and catches that were/weren't, blah blah blah.

That replay was in isolation to the rest of fouls in the game and there was not one piece of contact during the game that was any different to the AC contact that was blown as a foul. I'd add, that if that was a foul then there were thousands just like it that weren't blown.

All any of us want is consistency. Today, it does not exist. Moss gave a penalty for a foul on Reid, ignored the forearm smash on Reid by Huth, ignored the strangle by Ogbonna on Huth, and then the rest of the PL refs have not bothered to govern penalty box wrestling since August.

Sorry, not grumpy with you, just the failure by the PL to put this right.

Re: Refs badly need to get their act together.
Sadly, I think it was a penalty, though a soft one & in the context of the game, there could have been several more penalties (& far more clear cut ones than Carrolls)

My biggest disappointment was the fact that we lacked the wherewithal to hold on for a few minutes particularly against 10 men

We did exactly the same thing against Chelsea & don't seem to have learnt the lesson

I abused the PL about 8 times on twitter this morning calling their refs cheating cunts etc, I was going nuts yesterday at the decision, i was still pissed off as hell as i went to bed. BUT when you watch the angle Carragher showed on the coverage tonight its a penalty, i don't want it to be true but its a penalty

Re: Refs badly need to get their act together.
Nothing's going to be done about it.

We've been fucked over in the league and in the FA Cup, at Old Trafford.

Nothing's going to change that now.

Of course, it's fucking diabolical but do you really think that the pen-pushers at the FA or Premier League give a fuck?! Of course not.

I can't wait for this season to end now. Couldn't give a fuck about the Europa League. It should be the fucking Champions League.

Re: Refs badly need to get their act together.
The whole issue of a foul in the are being an automatic pen is wrong for me, absolutely no way was the leicester player going to be getting a shot at goal from there, he was just in the corner of the box and going away from goal.
